Former DS Kim Henneman Byerly Passes Away

Postby Fburtxds1 on Fri Sep 25, 2015 2:25 pm

It is with deep regret that I must announce the passing of former DS Kim Henneman Byerly. I received word of her death today from breast cancer from our good friend Sue Fellows who is also struggling against this dreadful disease. Although Sue and Kim had never served together nor even met face-to-face, the battle they shared and the close knit network they and others like them maintained formed a unique bond that is hard to grasp for those spared their challenge.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kim and her four boys and loving husband as well as to our own Susan Fellows who has lost a very close friend.

As one who has been touched by this disease, my heart goes out to her family, and to her. She fought the fight.

I will think of her in my prayers.

I'm sorry to hear of Kim's passing from this dreadful disease. A former wife passed away from breast cancer a couple of years ago and I didn't even celebrate. I have been sending annual check to the Susan G. Koman Foundation, but I'm going to be switching to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. because they have a better Charity Navigator rating http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=8776.

Maybe we can put something together to collect a block contribution from the DS community to this worthy charity. http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/

Mike,\
I've donated through the American Cancer Society since my wife died 4 years ago. I have participated in their "Relay for Life" both through a work sponsored booth and one associated with some friends of my new wife.

I would be willing to donate to a fund in honor of Kim.

That is not sufficient. Former DS3, amazing mother, best friend, mentor, supporter, sister, wife and person that I have ever met has passed. My heart is broken into so many pieces that I have not even allowed myself to really embrace it yet. I am in shock. I am forever grateful that I was able to see her last month, sit and hold her hand and kiss her cheek, hug her with my whole heart and tell her that I love her. You can not make NEW old friends, and she has been my friend for 3/4 of my life. She was the light in so many peoples lives, and the world will be a darker place without her special ray of love in our days...but I believe she is in a better place and I am happy that her pain and fear are gone.

My sweet Kimber-Doo....rest in peace, and know that I will try my best everyday to live up to the example that you set.

That was downright beautiful, Shana. She was so lucky to have you and Sue as her friends. I wish I had had the chance to know her. She was definitely someone special. I am so sorry for your loss. I know Sue took it hard as well. She and I spoke for quite a while the day she got the news. Like with her I will be praying for you and thinking of you and your family.
